The NHL's Department of Player Safety has been rather questionable in recent years. That being said, Kraken forward Yanni Gourde has earned himself a hearing with the department for a hit he made on Oilers defenseman Mattias Ekholm.

Gourde To Face Suspension For Hit On Ekholm

A hearing almost always means a suspension will be coming. That being the case, Gourde is almost certain to miss a few games following his hearing today. The forward was given a major penalty for the hit on Ekholm as well, although it came with less than five minutes left in the game.

Now he's facing supplementary discipline from the league in addition to the major penalty incurred during the game.
@SeattleKraken's Yanni Gourde will be meeting with the Department of Player Safety later today for charging #Oilers' Mattias Ekholm. Gourde received a 5-minute major on the play in which Gourde left his feet.

Incoming sussy for Gourde?

Even Kraken fans agreed that the major penalty was the right call on the ice.

High hit. Leaves his feet. That's the right call.

It seems then that a suspension is almost certain for Gourde. The only question that remains is how long it will be. The play involved both a high hit with targeting of the head as well as jumping off the ice to make contact. This could mean a rather lengthy suspension is in store for Gourde.
