Did The Canadiens Miss Out on a Talented Québécois Player?

While all of the players mentioned were selected in the first two rounds of the draft, there was one player from Quebec with an ultra offensive profile that could become a potential home run in the third round.

That player was Jordan Dumais of the Halifax Mooseheads. He was eventually selected 96th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets. With a 109 point season, including 39 goals in 68 games at age 17, he was becoming more and more of a high value pick as he slipped down the draft board.

In that third round, the Tricolore had two selections to make, one at No. 75 and another at No. 92, just ahead of Dumais' selection rank. In the end, the organization opted to select Vinzenz Rohrer and Adam Engstrom.

It's too early to judge the CH's two selections, but the Quebecer would have greatly deserved the attention of the Montreal club's scouting group.

Since the beginning of the QMJHL season, Dumais has literally been dominant, proving to teams like the Habs that they made a mistake by overlooking him.

In nine games so far, the 18-year-old has nine goals and 22 total points, which ranks him second in the QMJHL in scoring.

With a Quebec player as talented as him slipping through the draft, there's no denying that the Tricolore should have taken a chance on him, because despite his small stature, he has the offensive potential to become a real steal in this draft.
