It's no secret that Casey DeSmith is currently on the market and Kent Hughes is actively trying to trade him. The GM says so openly.

With training camp and the season approaching, teams are finalizing their preparations for the first game in October. No one is immune to a goalie injury, which will open the door to Kent Hughes.
According to Frank Seravalli, we may not have to wait for an injury, as the Avalanche already have a small problem.
"The Avalanche are reportedly looking at options on the trade market for a goaltender. I'm told Pavel Francouz hasn't fully recovered from adductor surgery in the off-season, and there are concerns that he won't be healthy to start the season.

Francouz made just 16 starts for the Avalanche last season."

Hughes could therefore soon be receiving a call from his Colorado counterpart in the next few hours.
