Scott Arniel Confirms Unfortunate Injury Update Before Tonight's Jets Game
Jets head coach Scott Arniel revealed that Morgan Barron suffered an injury last game and will now be out week-to-week, but will travel with the team.
Just as the Winnipeg Jets get ready to welcome captain Adam Lowry back to the lineup, they're losing another key centreman. Morgan Barron will miss time with an undisclosed injury suffered in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
His final shift came midway through the game, lasting just 50 seconds before he exited.
Head coach Scott Arniel wouldn't identify whether the injury was an upper-body or lower-body issue. The 26-year-old Halifax native has three goals and three assists through 12 games this season and won't be placed on injured reserve at this time.
"Morgan got banged up in the third period, so he's week-to-week," head coach Scott Arniel said. "We'll get a little bit more of an evaluation when we get home from this road trip. He will be coming with us, but I don't think he'll be on the ice."
Adam Lowry's return comes at the right time as he will take over Morgan Barron's position
Lowry, who had offseason surgery on his hip, moves in to replace Barron down the middle.
He was skating between Tanner Pearson and Nino Niederreiter during Monday's practice as the Jets prepared for their six-city road trip that begins Tuesday night in Los Angeles against the Kings.
Meanwhile, Cole Perfetti and Dylan Samberg, each still in yellow non-contact jerseys, were the last players off the ice Monday. They'll travel with the team through the 13-day trip while continuing to rehab their preseason injuries.
Perfetti hasn't played since Oct. 3 because of a high ankle sprain, while Samberg hasn't played since Sept. 27 because of a broken wrist.
Arniel also confirmed that forward Gustav Nyquist is day-to-day with a lower-body injury after he departed the Oct. 30 game against Chicago early in the first period.
The upcoming road swing, which ends Nov. 15 in Calgary, will be an early test of the Jets' depth and resolve this season.
With Lowry back in the fold but a number of regulars still banged up, how well Winnipeg adapts might make the difference between a strong start being maintained across the challenging trip ahead.
