Edmonton Oilers reporter Mark Spector confirmed today exactly how Leon Draisaitl was injured in his last game against the Sharks. Yesterday, the Oilers confirmed that Leon Draisaitl is out day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Losing Draisaitl is obviously a huge blow to the Oilers, who are hoping to make it back to the Stanley Cup finals again this year. If Draisaitl misses any time in the playoffs, that would be a huge blow to the team. That being said, we got another update on his status today and luckily for Oilers fans it is a positive one. Oilers reporter Mark Spector revealed that Draisaitl was not injured when he inadvertently stepped on a puck during his last game against the Sharks. Many fans were concerned that he suffered a groin injury as a result of that play, but Draisaitl told Spector that he was actually injured on a hit from Sharks veteran Barclay Goodrow. He also confirmed that this is not a new injury, but that Goodrow's hit simply reaggravated something he was already dealing with.

Loading from Twitter ...

Notably, Draisaitl has missed several games over the past few weeks with lingering injuries. Luckily, Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch also reiterated that he does not expect Draisaitl to miss any time in the playoffs. Of course, that does not necessarily mean he will be playing at 100% of his capabilities. Last year he played through a broken foot in the playoffs and was still effective, so we know it will take a pretty serious injury to keep him out of the lineup altogether. Draisaitl has 52 goals and 106 points through 71 games this season. He is now up to 399 goals and 956 points in 790 career regular season games, all with the Oilers.
