The Vancouver Canucks set a new franchise record during the first period against the Anaheim Ducks today. The Vancouver Canucks have arguably been one of the biggest disappointments in the NHL this season. Most fans around the league and certainly fans of the team expected them to be much better than they have been as they are on the brink of being eliminated from the playoffs. Recently, Canucks captain Quinn Hughes even admitted that they would very likely miss out on the playoffs this year. That being said, if today's game is any indication, the players have not given up hope just yet. The Canucks scored in bunches today, taking down the Anaheim Ducks by a final score of 6-2. In fact, the team set a new franchise record in the 1st period. Elias Pettersson, the defenseman, scored his first career goal half-way through the opening frame and fellow blueliner Filip Hronek followed suit just 66 seconds later.

But they weren't done there. Brock Boeser would score less than a minute later to make it 3-1, followed by Connor Garland less than two minutes later and finally Dakota Joshua made it 5-1 35 seconds after that.

In fact, with the fifth goal, the Canucks set a new record with the quickest five-goal span in franchise history with the 5th tally coming just 4 and a half minutes after the first goal.

With the win, the Canucks move to 35-28-13 on the season, giving them 83 points through 76 games. They are now six points back of the Minnesota Wild for the last wild card spot in the Western conference with six games left on their schedule, including one game in hand on the Wild.
