This afternoon, the Winnipeg Jets have cut 6 players from their NHL roster including an early pre-season standout. With the first game of the Jets pre-season concluded Kevin Cheveldayoff and the front office decided they had seen enough of several players for the time being. According to Mitchell Clinton, the Jets have cut 6 players from their NHL camp with two of those players being released entirely.
Winnipeg Jets Cut 6 Players From Their Training Camp Roster
The six players cut by the Jets include Kevin He, Edison Engle, Jacob Cloutier, Owen Martin, Alex Worthington, and Ethan Frisch.

Loading from Twitter ...

By far the most surprising cut this early is Kevin He who was outstanding last night in the Jets' first pre-season game even pulling off a highlight reel assist.

Loading from Twitter ...

While He was a long shot to make the opening night roster it is at least surprising he wasn't given a second game to see if he could follow up on this impressive performance. Instead, He will return to the Niagara IceDogs in the OHL where he will play alongside some of the 2026 NHL Draft's top prospects. As for the rest of these players, most will return to their respective junior and minor league teams while Alex Worthington and Ethan Frisch will be looking for a new team to sign to entirely. With so many cuts early in training camp it seems that the Jets front office have a clear vision of who they believe will make their team and might not keep any surprise candidates on the opening night roster. The Jets next play on Tuesday where they will take on the Edmonton Oilers and are expected to play a much more NHL heavy lineup.
