Now that Jets insider John Lu has retired, TSN has announced a major change in the broadcast team that will see Danielle Bain take over in his place. Following an incredible 25-year run with TSN, veteran broadcaster John Lu retired from broadcasting on July 1st, following free agent frenzy day. The son of Chinese immigrant parents who were both born in Vancouver, Lu was raised in Manitoba and became TSN's most professional-sounding announcer. Lu pioneered Asian Canadians in sportscasting. Lu started his own journalism career in the year 2000 with CTV Winnipeg after graduating from Red River College Polytechnic with his communications diploma. That very same year, TSN signed him to a contract, where he covered the Toronto Maple Leafs before relocating to Montreal, Quebec, in 2007 to start covering the historic Canadiens franchise. Lu's work life as a professional was challenged in 2020 when he was hospitalized because of COVID-19 complications. Two years later, he ended up moving back to Manitoba, where for the remainder of his career, he covered the Winnipeg Jets, as well as the CFL's Blue Bombers. His professionalism, politeness, and storytelling left an indelible mark on Canadian sportscasting.
Danielle Bain Will Now Fill in John Lu's Shoes for the Upcoming Jets Season

Loading from Twitter ...

Now that TSN closed the chapter on his storied reporting, a new chapter begins for the upcoming Jets season. TSN's new Winnipeg reporter is Danielle Bain. With Bain, the network now has a fresh face and a fresh voice to cover Manitoba's sports news. While Lu collects the fruits of his hard-earned retirement, Bain will be the one to be there for the fans every step of the way during the upcoming season.
