Hurricanes' Nikolaj Ehlers is making his first return to Winnipeg, and he spoke about what this means to him and provided some thoughts on Adam Lowry's new deal.

After his first ten years playing hockey in Winnipeg, Nikolaj Ehlers knew that switching teams and locations would be an adjustment.
This was evident in his early performance, as he began his new season without points in his first five games and didn't score his first goal until game 11, playing top-six and power-play roles with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Despite the slow beginning in scoring, it was clear that Ehlers was making his presence felt.

What Nikolaj Ehlers' most evident characteristic was

His most evident characteristic, however, is his speed, ranking in the 94th percentile with an average of 23.05 miles per hour in his max skating speed this year with NHL Edge.
Ehlers can quickly blow by opponents, accelerating into open channels with his edges and quickly stopping to separate himself from the others. His entry into the zone contributes heavily to Carolina's transition game.
He has been one of the most creative players with the puck, making high-level puck movement with walks and crosses, and he always seems to be searching for seams. His passing vision is something that separates him, at least from all wingers.

Why Nikolaj Ehlers isn't just a passer

He is not only a passer, however, and has already fired 57 shots and 117 shot attempts, leading all forwards in the league, after beginning his career with eight seasons with at least 20 goals.
Ehlers will make his first return to Winnipeg tonight, and he was asked about what this trip means to him after playing with the Jets for 10 years.
"Still feels like home."

He was also pleased with Adam Lowry's new deal, and he appreciates what the captain means to the city and the organisation.
"Fantastic that Lowry re-signed. I know how much he means to Winnipeg".

In the end, slow starts are to be expected. Ehlers seems to be playing well and threatening once again.
