A new report from NHL insider Chris Johnston has indicated that the Winnipeg Jets will need to break the bank to re-sign Kyle Connor. Earlier this week, reports indicated that Kyle Connor could command record breaking money on his next contract as extension talks continue with the Winnipeg Jets. Kyle Connor has been connected to Kirill Kaprizov who is also seeking a contract and just turned down 16 million dollars per season to stay with the Minnesota Wild. Now, a report from Chris Johnston has doubled down on the idea that the Jets will have to shell out a massive contract to keep Kyle Connor.
Kyle Connor Likely to Cash in on a Massive Payday
According to Johnston, it seems that as of now Connor will not be taking a home town discount. As a result, the Winnipeg Jets will need to be willing to essentially double the contracts of their highest paid players Mark Scheifele and Connor Hellebuyck who currently both make 8.5 million dollars per season on long-term deals. If the Jets were to give Connor such a lucrative contract they would need a long-term commitment from him to make the deal worth it for both sides. Even with this fact now known, Johnston still believes that Connor will end up back with the Jets on the biggest contract in franchise history.

Loading from Twitter ...

Extension talks are likely to continue between Connor and GM Kevin Cheveldayoff over the coming months and deep into the season. As more information is provided on these talks, we will pass along all of the latest news.
