Tonight a new interview with Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff confirmed what led the team to come up short in trading for Islanders forward Brock Nelson.

While Tanev is a good player who brings energy and a much-needed element to the Winnipeg Jets lineup many fans were hoping for a bigger move from Cheveldayoff and the front office.
After the deadline passed Cheveldayoff himself addressed the media and confirmed the team was in on bigger deals including for Brock Nelson but ultimately couldn't close the deal due to a specific circumstance.

Kevin Cheveldayoff Confirms Why The Jets Did Not Take A Big Swing At The Deadline

During his press conference, Cheveldayoff was asked about not landing Nelson on the trade market and while he did not directly confirm what went wrong he did say there were circumstances out of the team's control.
On top of that Murat Ates of The Athletic asked a follow-up regarding how competitive the Jets' offer was and if they were willing to trade anything it took to acquire top talent.
Cheveldayoff's answer once again confirmed they went all in and that the lack of blockbuster moves came down to circumstances they could not control.
While it is encouraging that Cheveldayoff and the Jets ownership group was willing to go all-in it does point out a bigger concern that star players are potentially not willing to come to Winnipeg even when they are the best team in hockey.
Even with losing out on Nelson the Jets made a couple of moves to keep up with the rest of the Western Conference and keep themselves competitive heading into the stretch run.
