Jets prospect Brad Lambert discusses trade request in his first interview since being demoted to the AHL
Tonight, Winnipeg Jets prospect Brad Lambert spoke to the media for the first time about his trade request after being demoted to the AHL.
Over the last week, reports have indicated that former Winnipeg Jets first-round pick Brad Lambert has requested a trade.
The request comes after Lambert was demoted to the AHL and saw limited playing time during his latest NHL opportunity before the demotion.
The report to this point was all speculation started by insiders with knowledge of the situation.
Now, Lambert has addressed the media himself and discussed why he and his representation decided to request a trade.
Brad Lambert opens up about requesting a trade away from the Winnipeg Jets
During a recent interview, Lambert was asked about the trade request that he reportedly submitted to GM Kevin Cheveldayoff.
According to Lambert, the decision was made because he does not see a clear path to playing time in the NHL without multiple injuries to key players.
Doesn't seem like there's an opportunity for that in the near future without injuries. I think that's what I'll leave it at.
While Lambert does not provide much detail it seems clear that he believes he is an NHL player right now and not being given that opportunity.
Despite the trade request, Lambert admits that his ultimate goal is to play for the Winnipeg Jets full-time.
However, if that is not possible it seems as though a trade is the next most likely outcome for the young skilled forward.
At just 21-years-old Lambert still possesses great potential and upside to be an NHL player some day whether that is in Winnipeg or beyond remains to be seen.
As this situation continues to play out, we will pass along all of the latest news.
