Winnipeg's transaction post made it plain: Scott Arniel has Parker Ford and Danny Zhilkin back on emergency recall from Manitoba.

The source is the club's X transaction post, here:
Ford, 25, is an undrafted forward signed through 2026-27 at a $812,500 cap hit, while Zhilkin, 22, was Winnipeg's 2022 third-round pick at No. 77 and carries a $803,333 cap hit through 2026-27.
These are not splash recalls. They're cheap, flexible depth pieces for a roster that still has Vladislav Namestnikov and Nino Niederreiter listed out.
Ford is the safer short-term fit. He has already played 11 NHL games this season with 1 assist, and his profile fits a straight-line bottom-six shift with forecheck pressure and quick bench trust.
Zhilkin is the more interesting development play. He has 4 NHL games this season, and the organization already gave him a look once, which matters when a coach needs a forward who can slide into a support role without a long runway.
The cap angle matters too. Winnipeg is adding two forwards for barely more than $1.6 million combined in cap hit, which is exactly how teams survive late-season roster stress without touching their core.

This is about insulation, not excitement

Arniel's projected forward group from the last update was already thin enough that one more absence could force a scramble. These recalls give him cover for the next game and a cleaner bench if another forward can't go.
Ford looks like the better bet to dress first because he gives Winnipeg a simpler NHL translation right now: short shifts, puck retrieval, wall work, no drama.
Zhilkin gives them another option if Arniel wants a little more pace and a younger look in the bottom six. That's the strategic piece fans should watch, not just the transaction line.
So yes, it's an emergency recall. But it also tells you exactly where Winnipeg is on March 27: protecting the lineup, preserving flexibility, and leaning on internal depth before making any bigger move.
