Darren Dreger's X report says Peter Chiarelli is leaving Jim Montgomery's Blues and is in Nashville's GM search.

Chiarelli, the former Oilers GM and St. Louis vice president of hockey operations, is not a player asset with cap baggage attached. No AAV, no term, no retention, but this still hits roster building.
The tweet trail is the story's first hard source:
The second post adds Kevin Maxwell leaving too, which matters because losing two front-office voices at once changes how Doug Armstrong can split pro scouting, development reads, and summer planning.
That's the real hockey fit for Nashville. Barry Trotz is retiring as general manager after a successor is found, so the Predators are not filling a future vacancy. They're working a live search now.
For the next game, nothing changes on Andrew Brunette's bench. For the next deadline cycle and the draft table, a lot can.

Why this hits harder than a routine staff note

Chiarelli's value in this process is experience. Nashville would be interviewing a former NHL general manager for a job that will shape its blue line planning, pro scouting priorities, and cap map in one move.
For St. Louis, this is more than housekeeping. Jim Montgomery coaches the team, but Armstrong needs trusted voices around trade targets, call-up timing, and which roster bets deserve another year.
That's why the Maxwell piece matters too. One departure is manageable. Two departures can force a front-office reshuffle before the offseason really starts.
Nashville is looking for its next architect, and St. Louis just lost one of the executives who helped shape the discussion around its next roster decisions.
