Tonight a new report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has revealed new details on the last minute extension agreement between Dylan Samberg and the Winnipeg Jets.

Heading into the 2025 offseason the Winnipeg Jets were mostly looking to keep their core group together to run it back next season.
After losing Nikolaj Ehlers to the Carolina Hurricanes the Winnipeg Jets turned their focus to restricted free agent Dylan Samberg.
The Jets qualified Samberg allowing them more time to negotiate with the breakout defender while holding on to his rights.
The two sides ultimately struck an extension deal just before arbitration was set to begin.
The deal was signed on July 30th the same day the two sides were supposed to meet for the arbitration hearing.
Now, Elliotte Friedman reveals just how close the Jets and Samberg came to allowing the arbitration process to play out.

In a new episode of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Friedman spoke about the negotiations between Samberg's agent and GM Kevin Cheveldayoff of the Winnipeg Jets.
He confirmed that the two sides were in Toronto preparing their cases for the arbitration hearing and just before the meeting took place were able to hammer out a deal.
This is a surprising revelation from Friedman as to this point reports had not indicated how the process played out.
While the deal was ultimately agreed to it seems clear one side must have caved and given the other the deal they were looking for.
It remains unclear exactly what happened behind closed doors but either way Samberg will remain in Winnipeg for the next three seasons.
