A goalie fight nearly seemed to be taking shape during last night's Jets-Blues game, but Connor Hellebuyck shut it down, saying it would actually be dumb. If Jordan Binnington was hoping to drop the gloves <a href='https://www.hockeylatest.com/nhl-team/winnipeg-jets/mark-scheifele-sets-a-winnipeg-jets-franchise-record-with-playoff-goal-against-the-st-louis-blues' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs</a>, he didn't find a willing dance partner in the other goalie's crease. <a href='https://www.espn.com/nhl/game/_/gameId/401768100/blues-jets' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>While the Winnipeg Jets closed out a 5-3 win over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night</a>, tempers were short in the final minute. Scrums ensued, then a series of 10-minute misconducts, as nine players in all took penalties as tempers ticked. <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/NHLdotcom/status/1913930648655663444'><div style='border:1px solid #CCCCCC;border-radius:10px;padding:20px;width:300px;'>Loading from Twitter ...</div></a></blockquote></div> In one of the fights in the Jets' end, <a href='https://www.nhl.com/blues/player/jordan-binnington-8476412' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>Binnington</a>, notorious for his short fuse and previous record of altercations, looked like he was about to get into the mix. He glided out from behind his crease, as if weighing things out, but headed back before things could get any worse. After the game, Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck was asked if he thought Binnington was interested in a fight. <a href='https://www.nhl.com/jets/player/connor-hellebuyck-8476945' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>Hellebuyck</a> provided his thoughts on the situation, and Binnington was not available for comment on his side. A goalie fight in the playoffs would be dumb, the two-time Vezina winner Hellebuyck replied. That would just be dumb. <img src='https://i.marqueur.com/habsetlnh/i/photo/551448.webp' width='100%' border='0' alt='image' loading='lazy' defer /> <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/BarDown/status/1913771188603494758'><div style='border:1px solid #CCCCCC;border-radius:10px;padding:20px;width:300px;'>Loading from Twitter ...</div></a></blockquote></div> <h3>There hasn't been a goalie fight in the playoffs in nearly 30 years</h3> It's been a while since there's been a real goalie fight in playoff hockey. The last one occurred on May 3, 1997, when Philadelphia's <a href='https://www.markerzone.com/hockey/stats/nhl/player/Garth-Snow-688' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>Garth Snow</a> and Buffalo's <a href='https://www.markerzone.com/hockey/stats/nhl/player/Steve-Shields-636' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>Steve Shields</a> exchanged blows in a Game 1 scrap in the second round. The Flyers defeated the Sabres in five games but went on to get swept in the Final by the Red Wings, who were in the Western Conference at the time. Fans will surely be keeping an eye out on both netminders for Game 2.
