Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin announced several signings today, including center Max Sasson and prospects Aatu Raty and Arshdeep Bains. The Vancouver Canucks were arguably the most disappointing team in the NHL last season as they failed to make the playoffs a year after winning the Pacific Division. Their season was riddled with drama too, which ultimately led to them trading JT Miller in a deal that significantly hurt their forward depth. Now the organization faces many more tough decisions, including what to do with goaltender Thatcher Demko, who has proven to be injury prone, and unreliable. However, several teams are reportedly interested in trading for Demko, but without another proven starter behind him, that would just create another hole in the team's lineup. That being said, Patrik Allvin is doing what he can to solve these problems, and today he shored up his forward depth with a couple of key signings. Namely, he signed 24-year-old center Max Sasson to a one-year extension worth league minimum.

Loading from Twitter ...

Sasson made his NHL debut with the Canucks last season, and put up a respectable 7 points in 29 games in a fourth line role. Sasson's deal is a one-way contract so he will still make 775k dollars next season, even if he is playing in the AHL. Allvin also announced contract extensions for forwards Arshdeep Bains and Aatu Raty, whom they acquired in the Bo Horvat trade two years ago. Bains appeared in 13 games for the Canucks this season, potting a single goal while Raty made 33 appearances, scoring 7 goals and adding 4 helpers for 11 points.

Loading from Twitter ...

None of these players figure to move the needle much for Vancouver, but perhaps Raty can still unlock some of that potential that scouts saw in him when he was once considered a potential first-overall caliber prospect. Regardless, Patrick Allvin will have more tough decisions to make in the coming days, so be sure to tune in to see how the Canucks approach free agency this year.
