The Edmonton Oilers and Stan Bowman are keeping busy so far to start their offseason, as they have just re-signed two of their key forwards. The first was former Boston Bruin Trent Frederic, who got an eight-year deal worth $3.85 million. Kapanen, 28 as of September, had five goals and 13 points in 57 regular-season games with the Oilers during the 2024-25 season, and three goals and six points in 12 playoff contests.
Kapenen was claimed off waivers from St. Louis
Kapanen came to the Oilers halfway through the season, having been picked up on waivers from the St. Louis Blues, where he played 10 games. The Finnish winger was under a one-year contract worth $1 million and would have been an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday. A 22nd-round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2014 NHL Draft, Kapanen played 527 games with the Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Blues, and Oilers, and has 90 goals and 222 points in his career. Edmonton also re-signed restricted free agent winger Noah Philp to a one-year, two-way contract with an NHL cap hit of $775,000.

Loading from Twitter ...

Philp, 26, played his first year with the Oilers last season with two assists in 15 games. He tallied 19 goals and 35 points in 55 games with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors. Philp is an undrafted free agent signing and is becoming an organizational depth player. Both signings give Edmonton depth up front heading into the 2025-26 season.
