This evening, a new report from Matt Sekeres revealed that Vancouver Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini forced the front office to trade for Evander Kane. The Vancouver Canucks have been busy this summer reshaping their forward group. That change continued today as the Canucks traded away Dakota Joshua to the the Toronto Maple Leafs. One of the reasons the Canucks were reportedly comfortable trading away Joshua was the fact that they had recently acquired Evander Kane who plays a similar role to Joshua on a cheaper contract. Many were hoping Kane would be able to mentor Joshua instead he will now replace him.

Loading from Twitter ...

In addition to this news, a new report has confirmed that the decision to trade for Kane came from above the front office directly given by Francesco Aquilini.
Canucks Ownership Reportedly Forced The Front Office To Sign Evander Kane
In a new episode of Sekeres and Price, reporter Matt Sekeres revealed that Aquilini is a personal fan of Kane's game and requested that Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin trade for him this summer.

Loading from Twitter ...

Kane, 33, spent all of last season on Long-Term Injured Reserve (LTIR) but re-joined the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In the playoffs, Kane had 12 points in 21 games but did provide the physicality and attitude that Aquilini reportedly has been a fan of. While this move could work out for the Canucks it is a concerning development that ownership is forcing the hand of the front office to bring in specific players. As the season gets under way it will be fascinating to see if Aquilini takes more control or if he trusts Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin to run his team.
