Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin Makes A Statement Regarding Rick Tocchet's Future With The Team
Today Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin has made a statement regarding the speculation around Rick Tocchet's future with the organization.
He even went as far as to say that Tocchet is unwilling to negotiate with the team in season, as he is focused on helping the team win games and does not want to be a distraction.
With Tocchet in the final season of his contract with the Canucks this caused some alarm in the hockey world as according to Friedman the discussions between the two sides had cooled down until after the season.
Over the last 24 hours, this then caused a ton of speculation regarding the future of Tocchet in Vancouver past the 2024-25 NHL season.
The speculation became such a topic of discussion that this afternoon Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin made a statement via a conversation with NHL insider Pierre LeBrun.
Patrik Allvin Makes A Public Statement On Rick Tocchet's Future In Vancouver
In a new report from LeBrun, he asked Allvin directly about extension talks between the organization and Tocchet as the end of his contract draws near.
In response to the question, Allvin confirmed that the organization is hoping to have Tocchet back next season and dialogue continues between the two sides with a resolution hopefully on the horizon.
While it is encouraging that Allvin admitted they want Tocchet back the fact that there are two contradicting reports on negotiations within a day of one another is strange to be sure.
With just a couple of months left in the NHL season, the Canucks need to ramp these negotiations up and secure a contract with Tocchet or begin preparing a search for a new bench boss for 2025-26.
