The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly interested in trading away players, and the Boston Bruins are allegedly interested in not one but two players based on a recent report. The Vancouver Canucks could soon be open for business, as team president Jim Rutherford indicated that the team intends to get younger. The Canucks have been anything but consistent this year under first year head coach Adam Foote. There are multiple pending free agent players on the Canucks that they could choose to part ways with. Per an unnamed NHL source, the Boston Bruins have inquired about both Kiefer Sherwood and Conor Garland. They have 100 percent called on both players. They want scoring and believe that with some more, this team can definitely stay in the race and make some noise. Sherwood's AAV (average annual value) is $1.5 million and he's a UFA at the end of this year. But Garland is still under contract for several more years with a $6 million AAV. Another source said that the Canucks aren't willing to trade Garland at this time unless they were completely blown away by an offer. They still really consider him a core player and a heart-and-soul guy that can score, so right now, they're not moving him. Of course, if the Canucks really go into the tank and someone knocks their socks off with an offer, you never know. So far this year, Sherwood has 16 points (12G, 4A), while Garland has 15 points (6G, 9A) in 21 games.
The Canucks Could Soon Be Open For Business Amidst Their Struggles
Per Canucks team president Jim Rutherford, Vancouver is willing to listen on players that would normally be close to being on the move as the Trade Deadline approached. The position of the team is that you would be willing to talk about the unrestricted free agents that would be talked about closer to the trade deadline. This isn't about just looking at trading everybody. There are a number of veterans who have played very well, so this isn't about clumping everybody together. It's more about accelerating the obvious (moves) that could be made two months down the road. The Canucks are only two years removed from the top spot in the Pacific Division and a trip to Game 7 of the WCSF against the Edmonton Oilers. But they missed the playoffs last season, and are on track to miss again this season.
