Gavin McKenna landing with Adam Foote's Canucks would not be a normal consolation prize.
Frank Seravalli's first top-five mock has Vancouver taking McKenna at No. 3, behind Toronto and San Jose.
The Canucks finished 25-49-8 with 58 points and a -100 goal differential.
This is not just a draft-board debate. It is a pressure test on the Vancouver Canucks' entire reset.
Toronto owns the No. 1 overall pick after the lottery, while San Jose sits at No. 2 overall and Vancouver follows at No. 3.
Seravalli's post made the scenario even louder because it put the biggest name in the class directly into the Canucks' range.

Canucks face a franchise-shaping call
If McKenna slips down to third, Vancouver cannot treat the pick like a needs-based exercise.
The Canucks allowed 316 goals this season, but drafting for the blue line at No. 3 only makes sense if the board forces it.
McKenna would give Foote a top-six offensive driver instead of another long-term project.
That changes the summer plan. Vancouver could chase structure, depth, and crease support while letting the draft solve high-end skill.
Other mocks still have Toronto taking McKenna first, which shows why Seravalli's Canucks angle is not consensus.
But that is the point. Vancouver's front office has to prepare for the surprise, not the safe board.
If McKenna is there at No. 3, the Canucks' rebuild gets a face. Passing would demand a very strong answer.
