Filip Gustavsson is now tied to Kris Knoblauch's crease problem, and Edmonton's summer just got sharper.
David Pagnotta's mention of Gustavsson and Jordan Binnington gives Stan Bowman two different paths.
One is cleaner. One is louder.
The Oilers finished 41-30-11, which is a poor landing spot for a roster built around Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
Their crease told the story. Tristan Jarry was at .882, Connor Ingram at .898, and Calvin Pickard at .870.
That is not a tandem issue anymore. That is a roster-planning issue.
Gustavsson fits the Oilers better than Binnington
Gustavsson went 19-15 with a .903 save percentage and 4 shutouts for Minnesota.
His $3,750,000 cap hit also matters because Edmonton already has money tied into its crease.
Binnington brings a bigger name and a bigger bill at $6,000,000.
But his .875 save percentage changes the conversation from upgrade to gamble.
The names land fast, and Pagnotta's wording turns a rumor into a real front-office pressure point.
"Filip Gustavsson and Jordan Binnington as potential targets for the Edmonton Oilers."

The strategic play is Gustavsson.
He gives Knoblauch a steadier first save, gives Bowman a cleaner cap fit, and does not force Edmonton to bet on reputation over current output.
The risk is price.
Minnesota has no reason to hand over a starter unless Edmonton makes the offer pop.
That means Bowman's real offseason test is not finding a goalie.
It is going for the wrong one.
