Filip Chytil's career is hanging in the balance given his injury history, and now he opens up on changes he's made ahead of his first full season in Vancouver. Last season, the Vancouver Canucks traded J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers, and in exchange they landed centre Filip Chytil, who has the talent to be a very good player at the NHL level. Unfortunately, he just hasn't been able to stay healthy as of late, with concussions becoming a major issue for the former first-round draft pick, missing 10 or more games in three of the last four seasons.
Chytil reveals changes he's made ahead of his first season in Vancouver
Given the concussion issues, it's clear that Chytil needs to avoid getting hit a little more than he has, and while it's impossible to avoid it completely, he revealed how he's going to change his game to avoid unnecessary hits and potential injuries. I've got to change a little bit. Of course, you cannot avoid too much because it's a contact sport. You can get a hit anywhere on the ice. (But) maybe ... I can use my head a little bit to change my game and don't get into some situations where I'm open to get a hit. In the summer, I was working on that. I was looking at the games that I played last season. With my personal team ... we were looking at that and working also on my game to (change) some details.

Loading from Twitter ...

When he's healthy, Chytil can be one of the more productive players in the NHL, and given the open 2C role in Vancouver, if he can step up and produce early in the year, he's got the talent to make that role his own. Only time will now tell how cautious Chytil can be while still playing his natural game, but given how important it is for him to avoid head injuries, we'll no doubt see a slight change in his game this season in Vancouver.
