The Canucks and GM Patrik Allvin have had to recall goalie Jiri Patera on an emergency basis, which has sparked concern through the fanbase.

The Vancouver Canucks' brutal schedule to open the season is starting to catch up to them, as they've called up a goalie just to give Thatcher Demko and Kevin Lankinen a little more rest, or so that's what they are telling everyone at the moment.
NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal doesn't believe that Jiri Patera's recall has to do with an injury, but rather caution; however, there has been no official statement yet by any of the Vancouver Canucks coaching staff or GM.
The Canucks are bringing up veteran depth goalie Patera from Abbotsford. In their announcement, the team said the recall is under «emergency conditions,» meaning there's an illness or injury concern with one of the Canucks' main goalies.

When the term "emergency" is used, it's usually due to an illness or injury

Usually, an emergency is used for those reasons, which is why, even though no one has said anything about an injury, it leaves you to believe there could be one.
If this recall ends up being indeed just to give Demko a little rest, that's pretty telling about how demanding the season has been so far for Vancouver, which finally got an extra day off on Thursday.
Patera was signed by the Canucks before the 2024-25 season as a little extra insurance for the organization. He played in eight NHL games in his previous stint with the Vegas Golden Knights, but otherwise has played primarily in the minors.
