A new report from Canucks analyst Patrick Johnston sheds light on the job security of general manager Patrik Allvin after the franchise-altering trade of captain Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild last week.

The Vancouver Canucks pulled off arguably the biggest trade in franchise history last week when they traded captain and former Norris Trophy winning defenseman Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild.
In return, they got forwards Marco Rossi and Liam Ohgren, defenseman Zeev Buium and a first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
It was the end of an era of Canucks hockey that saw them employ not only the best defenseman in franchise history, but easily one of the best five players at his position in the NHL today, and it was a profound disappointment that they never advanced further than the WCSF with him.
There are multiple other players who are reportedly on the trade block, including names like Conor Garland and Kiefer Sherwood, along with Evander Kane, who has just not worked out since coming over from the divisional foe Edmonton Oilers.
Per a new report from Canucks analyst Patrick Johnston of The Province, Canucks GM Patrik Allvin could be on a very short leash if he attempts to flip some of those aforementioned names and isn't successful in a short rebuild attempt.
What's his future here? Many people around the league have predicted over the past few months that Allvin wouldn't make it past Christmas. Well, here we are. The team is still one of the worst in the league.

There's little doubt that if things go sideways, if this attempt to make a quick rebuild by trading a few more pending free agents like Kiefer Sherwood and Evander Kane and bringing in young players in exchange doesn't work, that will surely be the end. - Patrick Johnston

The Canucks Could Soon Be Making More Moves

As mentioned, the Canucks still have several players who Allvin could decide need a change of scenery.
After the trade of Hughes, the most talked-about names remain both Garland and Sherwood, along with Kane, who has not brought the expected impact to his hometown team they were hoping for when they acquired him from Edmonton.
The good news for the Canucks is that since the trade of Hughes, they've gone 3-0.
