During a press conference after the trade, both Rutherford and Allvin made a statement on the shocking move.
First, Rutherford complimented Hughes' for his hard work and professionalism and then confirmed that this move was one to springboard the Canucks into a rebuild.
"Quinn is a great person, a great player, and one of the greatest Canucks of all time. With the circumstances surrounding JT and now Quinn, we are fortunate to acquire these very good young players from Minnesota. They will be a key part of the rebuild that we are currently in, giving us a bright future moving forward. The hockey club will continue to build with talented young players using that as a blueprint to become a contender sooner rather than later."

Then, GM Patrik Allvin went on to discuss the players coming back to Vancouver in the deal and the impact the 2026 first-round pick being included had on a deal getting done.
"Quinn played hard, lead by example and did a lot of very good things for the Canucks. Trading away a player of this caliber is never an easy decision to make, but it was one we had to do to make our team better. We are so excited to add a solid centre in Marco, a good young blueliner in Zeev and a versatile forward in Liam. This year's draft is a strong one so acquiring a first-round pick was also a big part of this deal.»

Rutherford also made it clear that Quinn Hughes was not going to re-sign in Vancouver and had made his intentions clear for over a year to leave at the end of his contract.
While the Canucks front office are clearly disappointed things did not work out with Quinn Hughes they have a clear plan to move forward and get the organization back on track sooner rather than later.
Now, it will be up to Canucks head coach Adam Foote and the Canucks development staff to put each of these young players coming to Vancouver in positions to thrive.
