Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers was hit with a fine from the NHL Department of Player Safety for his slash on Connor McDavid on Saturday in Edmonton. The Edmonton Oilers got their 1st win of the new year with a 3-1 victory over the divisional foe Vancouver Canucks on Saturday, but one member of the Canucks is going to have to soon write a check. Defenseman Tyler Myers, who wasn't penalized for his dirty slash between the legs of Oilers captain Connor McDavid, has been hit with a $2,500 US fine from the National Hockey League Department of Player Safety. Vancouver's Tyler Myers has been fined $2,500 for slashing Edmonton's Connor McDavid.

Loading from Twitter ...

The amount is the highest possible fine under the current CBA. After he was slashed by Myers, McDavid fell to the ice in obvious pain but was soon back up and in the play. Myers did soon end up in the penalty box, but not because of the slash. He was whistled for a delay of game penalty. There have already been plenty of fireworks between the teams, not only with the dirty Myers slash but with the thunderous hit by ex-Oilers forward Evander Kane on Alec Regula. It also wasn't the only fine handed out, as Utah Mammoth defenseman Ian Cole was also hit with a $2,500 fine for a dangerous trip on Nashville Predators forward Steven Stamkos during their game, also on Saturday.
Connor McDavid and Tyler Myers have a history
Both McDavid and Myers were each hit with 3 game suspensions each last year because of their actions during an Oilers and Canucks game. The Oilers later caught plenty of criticism for their statement they released on social media. It's not going to be long before the Oilers and Canucks play one another again, as the Oilers will travel to Vancouver for a game on October 26.
