Bill Guerin and Patrik Allvin came together for a shock blockbuster on Friday, and now the Wild GM is all compliments for his Canucks counterpart.

On Friday, we saw perhaps one of the most shocking trades in NHL history, with the Vancouver Canucks dealing captain Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild, a team nobody considered a possibility despite all recently speculation over Hughes' future in the league.
The deal saw Vancouver acquire three former first-round picks, as well as a 2026 first-round pick that allows them to kick start a rebuild with plenty of positive assets for the future.

Bill Guerin pays major compliment to Canucks General Manager

The deal came together very quietly, with no insiders having knowledge that the two organizations were even talking before the trade became official, and now, Wild GM Bill Guerin has complimented both Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford for their hockey smarts.
Look, with players of [Hughes] calibre, you cannot screw around. You're not going to fool anybody. Jim's been doing this for 40 years. I know Patrik. They do their homework. They know. We had to go to them with something real, right away, to tell them that we're serious.

We came out of the gates with that. Because they wanted to check certain boxes, and we had to check them for them. That's the only way it gets done. We're not going to sneak one by them. They're smart.
While Canucks fans have been frustrated, clearly the two have major respect around the NHL, and for the Wild to come with an offer that included a pick, Zeev Buium and Marco Rossi, clearly they weren't messing around.
It's unclear just how much negotiation needed to be done to get the deal over the line, but ultimately, this was one that made sense for both teams, so they quickly made it happen.
