His position with the team had become even more precarious after the Canucks had pulled off a surprising Quinn Hughes trade, acquiring forwards Liam Ohgren and Marco Rossi.
Both players were playing, relegating Bains to the press box, including Sunday's game against the New Jersey Devils, his sixth scratch of the season.

Bains, who signed with Vancouver as an undrafted free agent from the WHL Red Deer Rebels in 2022, has been steadily performing in the AHL. His season goes on in Abbotsford, where he will now serve as depth support to the roster.
