Leafs under fire for LTIR cap circumvention with Matt Murray

After it was announced that Matt Murray was being loaned to the Toronto Marlies from his LTIR stint this season, the Toronto Maple Leafs are being criticized for their use of LTIR.

The salary cap loopholes in the NHL are being exposed, as teams take advantage of the fact that there is no salary cap for the NHL playoffs. The most notable team under fire for this is the Las Vegas Golden Knights, however, the Toronto Maple Leafs are being criticized for it too.

It was recently announced that Matt Murray would be making his return to gameplay on a conditioning stint with the Toronto Marlies, indicating he is close to a return to play. This was immediately noted by Elliotte Friedman and other fans who pointed out that this is a loophole in the Cap.





Some immediately noted that Toronto is doing something similar to what Vegas is doing, but is flying under the radar.



However, other fans were quick to come to Toronto's defence, saying that it is not the same thing at all when Matt Murray is the Leafs' third-string goalie and Mark Stone is a Selke calibre player.
