Blockbuster trade involving Mitch Marner and Utah Hockey Club emerges

NHL insider Greg Wyshynski recently suggest a possible trade between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Utah Hockey Club. It would be a one-for-one, with Mitch Marner going to Utah and Clayton Keller coming to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The insider revealed that he did not come up with this proposal himself. In fact, he says that a 'very smart hockey person' made the proposal to him. It is interesting to think who Greg might have been referring to here. Is this individual with one of the two teams involved? Perhaps unlikely, but certainly not impossible.




Reaction to the trade proposal was mixed, but most people seemed to agree that the Utah Hockey Club would be making a mistake to accept this trade one-for-one. As such, the Leafs might actually have to throw in a sweetener to make it more palatable.



Many fans believe that Clayton Keller is actually the better player. Plus he's younger, and on a better contract. This makes him a much more valuable trade piece than Marner. Of course, that depends on who is asking though. Player valuations vary from GM to GM.



That being said, the consensus does seem to be that the Leafs might look into trading Marner in the offseason. Leafs reporter Nick Alberga proposed his own deal, sending Marner to the Islanders in exchange for Ilya Sorokin.


Regardless of what happens, the Leafs are poised to make some major moves in the offseason.
