TSN's Darren Dreger has a Colton Parayko to Buffalo Sabres deal sitting there, but his no trade clause stands in the way, and Blues fans can feel it tightening.

Parayko carries a $6.5 million cap hit through 2029-30, with a full no trade clause through 2027-28, then a 15 team list late.
That's why Patrick Maroon's quote hit so hard, he flat out said he doesn't think Parayko will waive.
Maroon's logic is simple, Parayko "represents that jersey" more than anyone, and it sounds like a guy who knows where the roots are.
If Dreger's report is right, Buffalo is waiting on one decision before it becomes real.
"I don't think he'll waive."

The reported return has included Radim Mrtka and a first round pick, which tells you how badly the Sabres want a minute eater on the blue line.
Parayko's 2025-26 line is 1-13-14 in 58 games, so this is not about points.
This is about a right shot defender who can take hard matchups, kill plays early, and calm chaos around the crease.
Buffalo's pitch is obvious, drop him behind their puck movers, let him close gaps, and make their goalies' nights easier.
For St. Louis, the push and pull is uglier, because moving that cap hit changes the whole deadline map.
The Blues are 23-29-9 after Wednesday's 3-2 win in Seattle, and the room finally has a pulse.

Colton Parayko keeps St. Louis Blues on edge

Blues fans feel torn, because selling makes sense on paper, but watching your backbone walk out hurts.
If Parayko won't budge, St. Louis can still shop elsewhere and keep its top pair intact for the next game.
If he does waive, it signals a bigger reset, and every veteran in that room hears the message.
Either way, this isn't noise anymore, it's one signature away from defining the Blues' deadline.
