Canucks fans get ready, now that Luke Hughes has just signed a seven-year contract extension with the Devils, rumors of Quinn heading over will start to resurface. The New Jersey Devils locked up a prized building block for their future just days into the start of the preseason. Defenseman Luke Hughes inked a seven-year, $63-million contract with an average annual value of $9 million today. The deal starts right away, holding onto the 22-year-old through the end of the 2031-32 season. Hughes, who stayed out of training camp while negotiating, will report to practice with the Devils on Thursday. He has the wealthiest contract of the Hughes brothers with this agreement.

Loading from Twitter ...

Jack Hughes signed an $8 million contract that extends through 2029-30, and Quinn Hughes signed a $7.85-million contract with Vancouver.
The Luke Hughes Signing is Being Deemed a Worst-Case Scenario for Quinn Hughes and the Canucks
While the deal provides Luke with long-term security, it also brings about what is considered by most to be Quinn's and the Canucks worst-case scenario.

Loading from Twitter ...

With both of the Quinn brothers secured for the long term in New Jersey, rumors are sure to begin again that the Canucks captain would someday end up with them. That rumor has preceded Quinn before, and this signing only further fuels the flames. On the ice, Luke has been revitalized since he made his debut with the Devils. He's logged tough minutes, averaging more than 21 per game for his first few seasons, churning out steady offense. Last season, he had seven goals and 37 assists in 71 games, trending towards 50 points if not for a lower-body injury. As a rookie, he had 47 points in 82 games and was a Calder Trophy finalist. The Devils will have to work within cap limitations, with Jonathan Kovacevic and Stefan Noesen out of commission, sitting just shy of $4 million over the cap. Both are being eyed for long-term injured reserve. For New Jersey, the Hughes trio tale grows louder, and now it appears a matter of time before it consumes all of us again.
