A video is going viral that shows Oilers fans watching Game 5 vs. the Stars at Rogers Place panicking after Connor McDavid touches the Clarence Cup.

There are superstitions in every sport, and in hockey, one of the most honored is this: don't touch the conference championship trophy. Connor McDavid ignored the tradition Thursday night, however.
After the Edmonton Oilers' 6-3 win over the Dallas Stars to win the Western Conference finals and advance to their second consecutive Stanley Cup Final, McDavid walked right up to the Clarence Campbell Bowl and placed his bare hands on it, a move that many fans believe could jinx their championship hopes.
Back at Rogers Place, the Oilers' home arena, fans were stunned. After all, hockey tradition holds that the only trophy worth touching is the Stanley Cup.

McDavid revealed that following superstitions last year led to heartbreak

In his postgame press conference, McDavid kept his explanation short and simple.
"Don't touch it last year, we don't win. Touch it this year, hopefully we win," McDavid said.

He was referring to last year's Western Conference win, when he and his teammates didn't touch the trophy. That season ended in heartbreak, with the Oilers falling to the Florida Panthers in seven games in the Stanley Cup Final.
Now, on the cusp of a historic rematch with the Panthers, McDavid seems not to be worried about superstition. Given last year's outcome, he might be thinking it's time to switch it up. Maybe, just maybe, some hockey traditions are meant to be broken.
