Tonight the Edmonton Oilers have secured their spot in the Stanley Cup Finals and captain Connor McDavid has made a major statement ahead of the upcoming series.

The Edmonton Oilers came out flying in Game 5, scoring two goals on their first two shots forcing a shocking early pull of Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger.
From that point, the Stars would try to mount a comeback but Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers would continuously put the game out of reach.
Once the final whistle blew, it was time for the Edmonton Oilers to celebrate reaching the Stanley Cup Finals for a second season in a row.
During the celebration, Oilers captain Connor McDavid made a shocking decision and statement ahead of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Connor McDavid Goes Against Tradition With Post Game Celebration

After the win, NHL Deputy Comissioner Bill Daly took the ice to present the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl Conference Championship Trophy.
In the past, the Oilers had not touched the conference trophy out of superstition.
However, tonight that was not the case, McDavid immediately held and picked up the trophy going against the trend of last year where the Oilers did not touch the trophy.
Not only did McDavid touch the trophy but every player and staff member seemed to go out of their way to touch the trophy.
After the on-ice festivities were complete Edmonton Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl was seen carrying the trophy all the way to the dressing room.
With the Western Conference Trophy in hand, the Edmonton Oilers will now turn their attention to a rematch with the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals.
The series will begin on Wednesday in Florida for the first pair of games before heading to Edmonton on the following Monday for Game 3.
As the series begins, it will be fun to see if the Oilers change in superstition pays off or if the Oilers will once again come up short at the last hurdle.
