Tristan Jarry opens up about opportunity to return home after trade to the Oilers
New Edmonton Oilers goaltender Tristan Jarry, who was acquired yesterday in a deal for Stuart Skinner, talked about the chance to return home after the trade from the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Have the Edmonton Oilers finally solved their goaltending? They sure hope so after they made an extremely risky move yesterday by acquiring Tristan Jarry from the Pittsburgh Penguins while sending Stuart Skinner back in return as part of the deal.
Jarry now begins his time in an Oilers sweater as soon as tonight when the Oilers face the Toronto Maple Leafs.
It's a full circle moment for Jarry, who started his professional career with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL. He's naturally excited to return to where his career began and put down roots.
Just my time playing there with Oil Kings, I enjoyed it so much. I have a lot of friends there, and I kind of grew up there a little bit. So when I had the opportunity to buy a home, that was where I decided to set roots.
I always thought Edmonton was special. It was somewhere that I really enjoyed growing up in junior. It's close to the family (his folks live in Vancouver), so it's an easy flight for them. I just really like my time there and my wife really enjoys it too (on the acreage). - Tristan Jarry

It's a risk for the Oilers, as they now have Jarry under contract for the next several seasons, while Skinner was a pending UFA.
Stuart Skinner Went The Other Way In The Tristan Jarry Deal
The Oilers felt they had no choice but to make a switch in their goaltending department after the tandem of both Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard delivered nothing but inconsistent, and often, shaky results.
It's also a risk for the Oilers if Jarry's game starts to struggle again as it did last year. The Penguins waived him and sent him to the AHL and, even though he started improving upon his return to the NHL, his struggles once again resurfaced as the Penguins missed the playoffs for the third straight year.
