Stan Bowman has a Jason Dickinson decision now, and Edmonton's 3C spot may decide which familiar Oiler gets squeezed next.

David Pagnotta's DFO Rundown note is suddenly sharper than a simple shopping-list rumor.
Pagnotta said the Oilers are going to look for a 3C, whether that is keeping Dickinson or someone else, maybe younger.
That means Edmonton's front office is not locked into retaining him.
It means Bowman is testing the price of stability against the price of getting faster, younger, or cheaper.
This is no longer about adding a third-line center from the outside.

Dickinson's future now shapes Edmonton's next move

Dickinson came over from Chicago on March 4 with Colton Dach in the Andrew Mangiapane trade.
Chicago retained 50% of his salary, so Dickinson counted for $2,125,000 on Edmonton's books.
That number was workable for a rental-type 3C.
The next contract is the problem.
If Dickinson wants real term, Edmonton has to decide whether a defensive center in his 30s is the best use of space around Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
If Bowman walks away, the Oilers still need the same role filled.
That is where the pressure hits a popular player.
A younger 3C could give Edmonton more speed and runway, but it could also force a veteran off the roster to clear money.
Dickinson gives the Oilers a known option.
The open market gives them risk.
And with Knoblauch fired on May 14, the next coach will inherit a roster Bowman reshapes first.
That is the real tension here.
The Oilers are not just deciding whether Dickinson stays. They are deciding how much sentiment they can afford while trying to rebuild the middle of the lineup.
