Oilers GM Stan Bowman has had enough of how fans have been acting on social media lately, and has called them out for all of their latest attacks on players.

In talking with them, among other things, several times throughout their conversation, Stan Bowman mentioned being subjected to the overwhelming social media scrutiny NHL players are subjected to.
He's no stranger to said pressure himself, considering all the furor surrounding his own life since his scandal days of the past with Chicago.
Then, Edmonton's goaltending was roasted, with Bowman being criticized for continued adherence to Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard, even though they were inconsistent.
The former, specifically, has been criticized by a torrent of social media commentary, even as mainstream media talking heads generally have come to his defense.

Bowman admitted he tried to make a trade for a new goaltender

Bowman said he did seek to acquire another goalie during the offseason but never could mobilize a trade.
He did go with a major coaching change, though, by releasing long-time goalie coach Dustin Schwartz and bringing in Peter Aubry, whom Bowman previously worked with in the Blackhawks organization.
John Shannon spoke about the irony of criticism, where Skinner and Pickard helped the Oilers to a pair of consecutive Stanley Cup Finals.
That's where Bowman issued a biting remark regarding the accelerating influence, and malice, of social media throughout the current NHL landscape.
"I think that's just part of the world that we're living in today. I don't know if it's good or bad. It's the society that we're all part of. And, you know, I think there's a lot of elements to social media that are a big reason for that. I think there's tons of benefits of social media. But there are some downsides too."

Bowman continued: "There's so much emotion, and there's so much passion, but there's also sometimes just so much noise out there. And I think whereas 20 years ago there was just as much emotion and noise, but there was really no platform for these people to connect with other people that sort of felt similarly wound up. They just were sort of yelling out their window and nobody was connecting to it.

"Now, when someone yells out their window and they can connect to millions of people at one time, and even if they have no credibility and don't know what they're talking about, there's a lot of other people and that's the world we have to live with. So we can't sit here and say it's bad because there's tons of great sides to it. But I think that is the downside, which is the passion and the emotion of the fans and the media has allowed some of this stuff to probably get out of hand. And we didn't really have that, say, 20 years ago."

Let's hope fans take Bowman's words to heart and start being a little more respectful on social media platforms.
