Stan Bowman Directly Responds to Reports of the Edmonton Oilers Pursuing Goalie Carter Hart
As training camp begins, Edmonton Oilers GM Stan Bowman addressed reports that the Oilers are interested in signing Carter Hart.
Over the last couple of weeks, reports had been coming in connecting the Edmonton Oilers to free agent goaltender Carter Hart.
Hart is eligible to sign with a team starting in mid October but will be suspended until December 1st due to the recent trial involving the 2018 Canadian World Junior Team.
Despite this suspension, several teams are reportedly interested in signing Hart to a contract once he is allowed to return to the NHL.
Today, Stan Bowman directly addressed whether or not the Edmonton Oilers will be one of those teams looking to sign Hart.
Stan Bowman Shuts Down Any Chance of the Edmonton Oilers Signing Carter Hart
During his opening press conference at training camp, Bowman was asked flat out if the Edmonton Oilers were considering signing Carter Hart.
Bowman responded by confirming the Oilers are not looking into that possibility and that they remain confident in Stuart Skinner as their starting goalie going forward.
This effectively puts an end to the Oilers adding a new starting goalie over Stuart Skinner ahead of the regular season.
Instead, the Oilers will look to upgrade other areas unless Skinner proves he cannot handle the starting role.
With goaltender taken care of, it will be interesting to see which position the Oilers target instead as they look to convince McDavid to stay in Edmonton.
As for Hart, he will now have to consider other options on the free agent market if he hopes to continue his career in the NHL going forward.
