Ahead of training camp, Connor McDavid sat down with Elliotte Friedman and made concerning comments about his future in Edmonton. Training camp kicks off today across the NHL and in Edmonton Connor McDavid surprisingly still does not have a contract. Despite discussion and negotiation between himself and the Oilers front office a deal is still not done which has fans on edge. This morning, a new interview with Elliotte Friedman has surfaced and in the interview McDavid once again makes some ominous statements about his future.
Connor McDavid Continues To Spark Concern For His Future In Edmonton
During the interview, insider Elliotte Friedman asked McDavid if a deal is closer to being done than the last time he spoke. Nothing has changed as of now, as I've said since June I'm going to take my time with it. It's a big decision and not something me or my family takes lightly. Everything in my life has been building to be in this position and in this moment. Friedman then admitted he was surprised a deal was not done and asked McDavid if fans and the media should be surprised about how long this is taking. I don't think so. Everyone is entitled to think what they want. I think people kind of just assumed things were going to happen. It just goes to show not everybody knows exactly what's going on. The final quote from McDavid is by far the most alarming as he says he has all the faith in the world in the team for this season but beyond that remains to be seen. My wife and I love being here in Edmonton and we have every intention to win here in Edmonton. We have all the faith in the world in this 2025-26 season. Beyond that, still remains to be seen.

Loading from Twitter ...

This quote from McDavid seems to double down on the report that he is unsure about the teams chances to win beyond this upcoming season. This means, the Oilers front office and Stan Bowman need to make some power moves to help build Edmonton's long terms sustainability. If they do not, McDavid could be walking out the door in July for nothing.
