Oilers' Trent Frederic's status for tonight revealed after facial injury in practice

Oilers' Trent Frederic took a puck to the face in practice yesterday and required stitches, but he has been cleared and will play in tonight's game.
Trent Frederic has not had it easy lately. He was hit in a Nov. 10 game, finishing the evening with a black eye from a scrap with Mathieu Olivier.
What happened to Trent Frederic in yesterday's practice
Later, in Wednesday's practice before their game on Thursday against Detroit, a puck caught him on the left side of his face, putting 14 stitches in his skin.
Despite all that, Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch assured that Trent Frederic would play with the team using the exact same lineup from the previous game.
Why this season is being labeled as a bad one for Trent Frederic
This year has not been what he hoped. Now in an eight-year extension with an average annual value of $3.85 million, Frederic has merely scored two goals and three points in 30 contests.
While he plays a physical game, with 12.6 hits per hour of ice time when five on five, his offense has been a career low.
While his defense has been good, his overall value, using HockeyViz, paints him as a low-third-line player, which would be a substantial step down from his peak, where he was a factor from further up ice.
The Oilers require more from Frederic on offense. He found a role in the lineup thanks to his scoring goals from depth positions, and this evening, he aims to offer a similar performance.
Scoring three goals in 13 career contests against Detroit, they rank third on his list as he has six points against them, as he sets to take on this Detroit duel with a lineup that features Curtis Lazar and David Tomasek.
