It appears that Jack Roslovic is nearly ready to play for the Oilers, and with injured players due to return, Isaac Howard looks to be the odd man out.

With Jack Roslovic coming aboard to join the Edmonton Oilers lineup, the team is almost at full health, and that brings some tough roster choices. The biggest challenge: having too many bodies when everybody is healthy enough to come back.
Roslovic should dress on the Oilers' next road swing through New York, and Mattias Janmark and Zach Hyman should be returning from injury soon enough.
When that does occur, spots in the roster will need to be made available, and waiver-exempt first-year player Isaac Howard is the safest bet to be the odd man out.

Isaac Howard Hasn't Looked Incredible in His 2 NHL Games so Far

Howard, 21, was impressive in training camp and made the opening-day roster, but after two games of the regular season, he is still adjusting.
He's given glimpses of talent and poise, but has not averaged a point yet and is just above 10 minutes of ice time per game.
Because he does not require waivers to be sent down, the Oilers can shuttle him back and forth between the AHL and NHL as they please, a privilege that is here being employed against him.
Roslovic inked a fresh one-year, $1.5 million contract with no-movement protection until October, holding his roster spot at least through November 1. When Hyman and Janmark are cleared medically, Edmonton will revisit its 13-forwards configuration.
If Howard is being sent to the AHL, it can't be considered a demotion. It would just allow him to play more minutes and keep working on his craft while the Oilers sort out their depth chart. In the long run, it's a win for the player and the team.

Should Isaac Howard be sent down once the Oilers have a full, healthy roster?
