Oilers prospect David Lewandowski scored a goal and played a key role in helping Germany stave off relegation at the World Juniors vs. Denmark.

Germany secured their spot in the top division at the World Junior Championships for another year.
It was a shaky beginning for Germany at the group stage, but they managed to prove their worth by winning against Denmark 8-4 in the relegation battle, thus avoiding it.

What David Lewandowski did to help his German side

Edmonton Oilers prospect David Lewandowski was part of this crucial victory, as he scored one of Germany's goals.
There was not much action for Lewandowski in the tournament either. The 18-year-old winger scored one goal in five games, raking in three points. He equaled his goal count from last year's event.
He turns 19 in February and will remain eligible to participate in the tournament to come next year.
The event will be held in Edmonton and Red Deer in 2019; the championship win by the Germans assures the program its eighth consecutive participation at the championship level since getting an upgrade to Division I Group A.
The German native of Schwetzingen is expected to join the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League shortly.

Why David Lewandowski is proving he has a bright future ahead

In 28 games played so far within the current season, he has eight goals and 32 points, far exceeding the 39 points attained within the 52 matches played the past season.
Even though he has not played since December 9th, he is still one point shy of the current leaders. His team is ranked fifth within the Eastern Conference of the WHL.
Another prospect for the Oilers at the 2026 World Juniors is defenseman Asher Barnett of the United States of America team. He was picked in the fifth round of the 2025 draft and has played in four games as part of the third defensive pairing.
The quarter finals conclude on Friday, with the semi finals beginning on Sunday and the medal games on Monday.
