The Edmonton Oilers have locked up one of their top prospects and AHL leading scorer Quinn Hutson to a two-year contract extension.
The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Quinn Hutson to a two-year contract extension worth $1.775 million, which carries an annual average value of $875,000.
The extension replaces the final season of Hutson's entry-level deal, which was originally signed back in April 2025 after his collegiate career at Boston University.
Edmonton burned the first year of that contract to get Hutson into NHL games late last season, which will allow the extension to begin without increasing his cap hit.
This comes with little risk for the Oilers. Hutson's new deal mirrors his previous salary while also buying additional time to evaluate his development at the professional level.
Hockey runs in the Hutson family
The oldest of the Hutson brothers, Quinn, is related to defensemen Lane Hutson of the Montreal Canadiens and Cole Hutson of the Washington Capitals.
He went undrafted after two USHL seasons despite posting a solid 73 points and 83 penalty minutes in 59 games during the 2021-22 campaign.
That production earned him a three-year run at Boston University, where his ability to extend offensive-zone possession truly stood out.
Why Quinn Hutson has a solid hockey resume
Hutson played a key role during the Terriers' run to the 2025 National Championship game, which helped elevate his profile among NHL scouts, thus leading to his current opportunity.
Hutson signed with Edmonton immediately after the tournament and finished the 2024-25 season in the NHL with them.
This season, he has taken a major step forward, where he is leading the AHL's Bakersfield Condors with 23 goals and 38 points in 30 games while also scoring his very first NHL goal in four appearances.
As the season progresses, Hutson has emerged as a valuable depth piece for Edmonton, earning call-ups as well as steady minutes.
The Oilers are betting that giving him a continued opportunity could translate into sustained NHL production at a team-friendly cost.
