Oilers feed Skinner to Wolves ahead of playoffs
In last nights Edmonton Oilers game, it was all about giving the big-name players a breather before the playoffs. We saw the B team hit the ice, but what caught everyone off guard was Stuart Skinner getting the start in goal.
Going up against a fired-up Avalanche squad hungry for a win, starting Stuart Skinner raised concerns, especially when Colorado notched 4 goals in the first period alone. Fans are scratching their heads over this move, worried about what it could mean for Skinner's confidence and physical well-being.
Sure, Calvin Pickard saw action last night against the now inactive Arizona Coyotes, but many would have preferred to see him between the pipes again, even on short rest, rather than risking Skinner right before the playoffs. It feels like a blunder from head coach Kris Knoblauch and the Oilers. Hopefully, they make a quick change and give Pickard a shot.
Right now, the focus is on making sure Skinner comes out of the game unscathed and with his head held high, especially with Edmonton's playoff journey beginning in a few days.
Edmonton will get some early downtime to recover from this chaotic end-of-season stretch. With game one not until Monday, hopefully Skinner uses this break to refocus for the postseason ahead.
