NHL insider David Pagnotta revealed that the Oilers' primary focus this offseason will be to upgrade their secondary scoring, above all other positions. David Pagnotta of 'The Fourth Period' visited Sirius XM NHL Network Radio recently to <a href='https://nhlrumors.com/nhl-rumors-edmonton-oilers-still-looking-to-add-some-depth-scoring/2025/07/10/' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>discuss what the Edmonton Oilers are going to do this summer.</a> On the outside, the team may appear to be doing nothing, but there is plenty that is happening behind the scenes. <h3>The Oilers seem to be focused on fixing their offense over their goaltending</h3> David Pagnotta indicated the Oilers are seeking offense, namely secondary scoring, to add some depth to their lineup. While goaltending has been a concern, management insisted that they're comfortable with their current tandem. Edmonton is exploring unorthodox solutions with the shallow free-agent pool, however, and may look to upgrade through trade. The trade of Viktor Arvidsson to <a href='https://www.hockeylatest.com/nhl/trades/edmonton-oilers-officially-trade-viktor-arvidsson' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>Boston on July 1 freed up $4 million in cap space</a>, and the Oilers were left with over $4.5 million to spend. Having some depth on the roster, thanks to players on waivers, they have more room than it might seem. Anthony Stewart: The Edmonton Oilers have been a little bit stagnant for a little lack of better words. But we obviously know there's some cap restraints, but I'm sure Stan Bowman and company have something up their sleeves. What do you see them doing over the next day, week, month, or couple of months over the offseason? Dave Pagnotta: Well, Stewie, they want to add. They were looking at trying to see if they can add a little more offense up front to give them some extra secondary scoring punch within that roster. And I know everybody kind of wonders about goaltending as well. What's going to happen with that? They keep telling everyone they're confident with their duo. The signing is reactive as the Oilers seek to replace depth lost over the last two summers, including that of Corey Perry, Evander Kane, and other players like Philip Broberg, Jeff Skinner, and Dylan Holloway. The club is also still deliberating its goaltending situation and working on an extension for Connor McDavid. Although the offseason started slowly, Edmonton is far from finished reshaping its roster.
