This evening, the Edmonton Oilers have been linked to superstar winger Artemi Panarin as a potential trade deadline target in a new mock trade.

The Edmonton Oilers are expected to once again be buyers at the NHL trade deadline as they are in the Stanley Cup Playoff race.
One of the biggest names expected to be available on the market is Rangers forward Artemi Panarin.
Earlier this week, the Rangers confirmed they would not be renewing Panarin's contract and instead would be seeking a trade.
Now, NHL analyst Jesse Courville-Lynch has suggested a combination of moves that could land Panarin in Edmonton.

Artemi Panarin linked to the Edmonton Oilers in wild combination of blockbuster moves

In a new piece for The Hockey Writers, Courville-Lynch put together a plan for the Oilers to acquire Panarin.
The biggest hurdle would of course be the salary cap as the Oilers only have $270,000 in salary cap space.
This means the Rangers would need to retain half of Panarin's salary bringing his cap hit down to around 6 million.
From there, Courville-Lynch suggests the Oilers clear space by trading away Andrew Mangiapane and Calvin Pickard who are reportedly unhappy anyway.
The Oilers would then need to get some money off the books. The two obvious candidates are Andrew Mangiapane, who makes $3.6 million, and Calvin Pickard, who makes $1 million. Even then, the Oilers would still need to clear up some extra money.

From there, the Oilers could make something work and Courville-Lynch suggests a trade package of Oilers prospect Beau Akey and a 2027 first-round pick for Artemi Panarin.
Panarin at half retention in exchange for Beau Akey and a conditional 2027 first-round pick.

At this point, it remains uncertain whether or not this would be enough for the Rangers to part ways with Panarin.
If it is then this deal would be a no-brainer for the Oilers in a year where they are once again trying to go all-in to win a Stanley Cup.
Stan Bowman has shown his is not afraid to make a big deal in the past going for player such as Jake Walman and more recently Tristan Jarry.
If Panarin is moved this season look for the Oilers to be a potential contender to bring him out West to chase a Stanley Cup.
