NHL analyst suggests blockbuster defenseman swap between the Oilers and Maple Leafs
Darnell Nurse has been a sore spot for Oilers fans for quite some time, and now a top Insider has proposed a blockbuster one-for-one swap with the Maple Leafs.
The Edmonton Oilers made a major statement on Thursday night, and after a slow start to the 2025/26 campaign, the hope is that they can use their massive victory to propel them forward into plenty more success.
However, all anyone can talk about with the Oilers is the moves that they need to make, with most still hoping and expecting a goaltender trade at some point over the next few months.
Shock one-for-one deal proposed with the Maple Leafs
There are still plenty of questions to be answered on their blue line as well, and on the latest episode of the Real Kyper and Bourne Show, a shocking one-for-one deal with Darnell Nurse and Morgan Rielly of the Toronto Maple Leafs was proposed.
On paper, it's a move that could potentially benefit both teams, but with Nurse having just 10 points and a -10 in 28 games played for Edmonton this season, it's unlikely as of right now that they'll be able to unload his $9.25 million salary.
While the Maple Leafs and Rielly are struggling mightily this season, Nurse isn't going to be the answer to their questions, so it's unclear exactly why this was a deal that was brought up.
Ultimately, the Oilers would love to unload Nurse and his entire salary to help their situation moving forward, but given how he's failed to live up to the expectations of the deal, it's highly unlikely that any team will take him on ahead of this season's trade deadline.
