Vancouver linked to Flyers star forward: 'Canucks have called about him'
The Canucks have been linked to Flyers star forward Owen Tippett, as NHL insider Elliotte Friedman even revealed the team has called about him.
The Philadelphia Flyers have been a surprise team to date. They are competing well, and although it is very early, it is a team that has struggled with long losing streaks, but it is competing above what is expected.
All of this came with more speculation about what Philadelphia is doing next. They are actively searching for another centre, and winger Owen Tippett has also been in rumors on and off.
What Elliotte Friedman said on his latest podcast
In the latest episode of 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Friedman reported that the Flyers are working to quiet speculation surrounding Tippett. He also reported that the Canucks have reached out about Tippett, but feels it is unlikely.
Philadelphia feels Tippett has another gear to reach and is committed to him. The Canucks are also reported to have interest in the Flyers as an overall trade partner, but due to cap restrictions, it is not an easy conversation to have.
Why a trade could be challenging for the Canucks
They have less than two million to spend, so things have to work out such that money is exchanged on both ends, or it is strictly a trade involving future picks.
The Canucks have five unrestricted free agents pending, and these are Evander Kane, Teddy Blueger, Kiefer Sherwood, David Kampf, and Derek Forbort.
The players injured at the moment are Blueger and Forbort. The team has recently signed Kampf, so Sherwood is the next possible trade piece.
As of yet, nothing seems to be on the horizon, although it is certainly interesting to keep an eye on each of these possibilities.
